"A wallflower is often an overlooked gem. Whether it’s an actual flower, a person, something odd or funny, or a momentary glimpse of light, it can be wonderful when looked at closely. To appreciate a wallflower is to appreciate the smaller moments and subtleties in nature and in life. It is turning over a rock, digging for treasure, exploring the unknown, and finding new colors, patterns, rhythms, and perspectives.
In addition to specific items and moments, I have followed my love for pattern into a world of wallpaper and textile design, which belong to their own time periods and locales, and have their own implied stories and scenes. Juxtaposing wallpaper patterns and women dancing, there is a veiled freedom and private joy layered in the design. These paintings hint at the historical world of women through textiles and florals - an undeniable and irresistible parallel for exploration.
In any case, these paintings are wallflowers about wallflowers. This collection represents some of the treasures I've found upon looking closely."
